The Berber people, the original inhabitants of North Africa, have a particularly strong presence in Morocco and greatly enrich the Kingdom’s cultural heritage with their inspired poetic and vivid music and dance.

We now share an exceedingly rare 45 rpm of Berber folk music from the Middle Atlas, featuring Baïza Mohamed’s voice and fiddle–played upright like the traditional rebab but with a greater range–a woman’s voice in an intense dialog with Mohamed, and the bendir frame drum whose rhythms are central to Berber music and identity.

Les berbères, qui sont les premiers habitants de l'Afrique du Nord, ont une présence particulièrement forte au Maroc et enrichissent le patrimoine culturel du Royaume avec des musiques et de danse vives, inspirées et poétiques.

Nous partageons maintenant un 45 tours très rare de musique folklorique berbère du Moyen-Atlas de Cheikh Baïza Mohamed, qui chante et joue du violon – qui remplace la vièlle à archet rabab traditionnelle, mais avec une plus grande portée – une voix de femme intense et le tambour sur cadre bendir, dont les rythmes sont au coeur même de la musique et de l'identité berbères.
