Armenian priest, singer, musicologist, and composer Komitas (1869-1935), born Soghomon Soghomonian, is a central figure in Armenian music. He tirelessly collected over 3,000 folk tunes in the Armenian Highlands between 1899 and 1910 and introduced polyphony in Armenian religious music at the end of the 19th century.

So important was his contribution to Armenian culture and identity that he is referred to as the "savior of Armenian music," all the more so in the context of the tragedy that befell the Armenian people in 1915.

The majestic polyphonic liturgical Patarag sung by a men's choir on this double LP on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of his birth radiates mysticism and timeless beauty.
