The highly distinctive and immediately recognizable music from the Italian island of Sardinia features stunning polyphonic throat singing and the use of the launeddas, a polyphonic triple clarinet (which dates back to the eighth century B.C.) with one pipe that acts as a drone.
Volume 3 of the Albatros label’s wonderful three-record anthology showcases polyvocal songs on Side A and instrumental music, often played to accompany dancing, on Side B.
