Following our presentation of the formidable singer Hirabai Barodekar (1905-1989) in a previous post (HMV 7 EPE 1205), we now present her in a riveting jugalbandi (literally translated as ‘entwined twins’) duet with her younger sister Saraswati Rane (1913-2006). The two daughters of Abdul Kareem Khan (1872-1937), the founder of Kirana Gharana, weave illuminating circular flights that radiate balance, depth, and imagination. They are accompanied here by Narayanrao Indorkar on tabla.

    1. The pleasure is all mine Sentaan. The two sisters were also the first to present a two-female voice Jugalbandi. Fantastic indeed.

  3. Thank you very very much. In two days I will start to post a series of recordings by Hirabai Barodekar. I also had planned to post this recording here, but have it only as a cassette. You saved me some work.
