Hirabai Barodekar and Saraswati Rane – Raag Chandra Kauns, Raag Basant Bahar – ECLP 2356 – released 1968 (LP)
Following our presentation of the formidable singer Hirabai Barodekar (1905-1989) in a previous post (HMV 7 EPE 1205), we now present her in a riveting jugalbandi (literally translated as ‘entwined twins’) duet with her younger sister Saraswati Rane (1913-2006). The two daughters of Abdul Kareem Khan (1872-1937), the founder of Kirana Gharana, weave illuminating circular flights that radiate balance, depth, and imagination. They are accompanied here by Narayanrao Indorkar on tabla.

C'est enivrant de beauté, de sensualité, de spiritualité! Merci beaucoup. Armand.
ReplyDeleteJe suis ravi que ça vous plaise Armand. Elles ont d'ailleurs souvent chanté ensemble sur scène.
DeleteFantastic LP by two greats of the Kirana Gharana. Many thanks for sharing this rare LP!
ReplyDeleteThe pleasure is all mine Sentaan. The two sisters were also the first to present a two-female voice Jugalbandi. Fantastic indeed.
DeleteThank you very very much. In two days I will start to post a series of recordings by Hirabai Barodekar. I also had planned to post this recording here, but have it only as a cassette. You saved me some work.
ReplyDeleteThere's just something so special about her voice...so I'm very much looking forward to discovering new LPs of her's thanks to you. I should also mention your latest Abdul Kareem Khan shares. You should be highly praised for all the effort you put into posting so many gems on your http://oriental-traditional-music.blogspot.com blog.
DeleteIf you have any recordings of ustad nasir ahmad khan of delhi gharana please upload
ReplyDeleteI unfortunately don't know this artist at all. Just looked at Discogs and found one LP and a 45. He looks pretty much off the radar. If any of our friend has a recording, I would be delighted to post it.
DeleteCharming and Enchanting.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the wonderful music that you provide for us to listen to!
Teşekkürler...
