Lalgudi Jarayaman was an extraordinary soloist who was instrumental in presenting the Carnatic violin to the four corners of India and the world. He was also a prolific composer, a great teacher, and a major innovator who performed Jugalbandi duets with Hindustani luminaries like Vilayat Khan and Amjad Ali Khan, and pioneered a fascinating format showcasing the violin, flute, and veena as heard on this lyrical LP. Jarayaman plays in a quintet here with N. Ramani (1934-2015) on the venu flute, R. Venkatraman (1938-2010) on veena, Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman (b. 1935) on mridangan, and T. H. Vinayakram (b. 1942) on the ghatam. The delicate interaction and almost telepathic sensitivity between the artists is palpable.

Lalgudi Jarayaman était un soliste extraordinaire qui a joué un rôle prépondérant dans la présentation du violon Carnatic aux quatre coins de l'Inde et du monde. Il fut également un compositeur prolifique, un grand maître pour toute une generation de violonistes et un créateur majeur qui a joué des duos Jugalbandi avec des grands musiciens d’Inde du nord tels Vilayat Khan et Amjad Ali Khan. Jarayaman créa également un format de concert novateur qui associa le violon, la flûte et la vina Carnatic comme sur cet album lyrique. Jarayaman joue ici dans un quintet en compagnie de N. Ramani (1934-2015) à la flûte venu, R. Venkatraman (1938-2010) à la vina, Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman (né en 1935) au mridangan et T.H. Vinayakram (né en 1942) au ghatam. L'interaction délicate et la sensibilité quasi télépathique entre les artistes sont palpables.
