This performance by the outstanding sarod master is an absolute tour de force. The inspiration, intensity and precision of Raga Darbari, stretching over both sides of the LP, is a piece for the ages. Exquisite music of the highest order.

  2. Thank you for this transfer. I found this article about Amjad Ali Khan's father and his feelings about Raga Darbari to be very charming:

    1. Hi Richard,
Thanks for the article. This anecdote perfectly exemplifies the traditional spirit and lofty concerns. Today most people would only think: what a fool not to have taken advantage of the situation to secure material wealth; that he's in fact selfish and doesn't even think about his children's future bla bla. Little do they know he in fact gave his son Amjad the greatest gift of all: the essence of nobility and the understanding of Raga Darbari

  4. You're very welcome. I quickly glanced at your blog. I'm also a huge Sun Ra fan, and will soon post something about the influence of traditional/world music on Jazz. Take care.

  5. You should mention also that this was the first appearance on record by the great tabla player Sabir Khan! :-)
