Lalgudi Jayaraman with Lalgudi Shrimathi – HMV 7 EPE 1614 – 1962 (Vinyl 7 inch, 45 RPM)
Lalgudi Jayaraman (1930-2013) was one of the finest South
Indian violinists, who, along with a great solo career, accompanied many
leading Carnatic vocalists, such as M.D. Ramanathan and Maharajapuram
Santhanam. Here Lalgudi, accompanied by his sister Shrimathi, weaves lyrical
and conceptual forms that transcend the South Indian genre to touch upon the
universal. The great classical violinist Yehudi Menuhin was once so impressed by
Lalgudi’s playing he gave him his own violin.

Lalgudi, accompagné par sa sœur Shrimathi, tisse des formes lyriques et

grand violoniste classique Yehudi Menuhin a été tellement impressionné par le
jeu de Lalgudi lors d'un récital qu'il lui a donné son propre violon.
